Senior Project Engineer UL Solutions Northbrook, Illinois
Presentation Description: Thies released a new anemometer that internally pressure corrects to better reflect the wind speed measurement. UL Solutions is testing this aspect of the sensor and determining if applying these corrections in post processing will lead to the same results. Correcting the Thies anemometer data in post processing will allow us to use the best classification number for anemometers already deployed in the field and to further reduce the wind speed measurement uncertainty. Further reduction in uncertainty for wind speed measurements will lead to better power curves for wind turbines and more accurate results for remote sensing devices where anemometer uncertainty drives the RSD uncertainty.
