Presentation Description: With plenty of leading developers in the industry possessing a portfolio of both wind and solar projects, the scenario of locating both technologies on the same land or neighboring land commonly arises. Developing areas for both wind and solar allows developers to increase land usage, lower interconnection costs, utilize existing landowner relationships, and maximize generation profiles on existing transmission infrastructure.
However, while the benefits are numerous, there are risks as well stemming from equipment failures specifically due to the bypass diodes, string level components, and possibly inverters functionality.
The purpose of this proposal is to bring this topic in front of the brightest minds in the industry for collaboration on a solution to reliably develop co-located wind and solar projects. Finding a solution to this topic will allow solar developers to maximize relationships, transmission generation profiles, and land usage which have long been knocks on renewable energy projects.
